SHE MUST DIE is a cabaret and interdisciplinary performance piece combining 3M overhead projector, operatic & contemporary voice. Director Dylan Bandy creates environments that are ephemeral but to the point: a knife on red transparency paper, waves on glass; while soprano Brittany Loewen’s "controlled and powerful"* voice propels feeling through sound; and Laura Dern, the folk-pop duo comprised of Cydney Asher & Dylan Bandy, play songs about memorializing, disappearing, and the idea of forever.
Brittany's arias, from the operas La Gioconda, Mme. Butterfly, Otello, and Suor Angelica lay the foundation for SHE MUST DIE, as at the end of each aria she dies, and dies over and over again. SHE MUST DIE attempts to reconcile each tawdry demise with something overwhelming: an immersive internal landscape.
